City & Guilds 3667 Level 2 Certificate In Communications Cabling:Contents of the
City & Guilds Communications Cabling Training Programme
The award is made up of two separate courses delivered in a standard format for the level2 award in communications cabling. The programme requires self directed learning of theory and then attendance at our training facility for 5 DAYS.
The theory element is studied in your own time at your own pace and consists of workbooks, review questions supported by video. You then only attend at our training centre once you have completed all of the review tests in the theory material.
The dates we have listed on our schedule are for the sessions where the learners attend our facility to complete the theory assessments and the practical hands on training.
In order to complete the home study element **with our support of course**. All learners will be provided with at least 5 weeks or as long as you need to complete this part of the programme.
The next step is to complete all the practical activities at either are Dublin or Carlow facilty with plenty of time to practice, No pressure you leave us skilled and confident.
The units contained in this programme are.
Unit 101 Principles of communication Cabling.
This unit is mandatory and must be completed by every learner to achieve the level 2 Certificate in Communications Cabling.
This unit is concerned with the health and safety working practises and the basic principles of communications.
This Unit is a self directed home study unit. constructed with knowledge reviews to allow you to confirm your learning as you work your way through each section. This Unit must be studied and all Knowledge Review completed BEFORE attending classroom training.
Though we do go through this with you in a classroom revision/Test preparation period, prior to you taking the test for this unit.
The outcomes the training is to facilitate as listed in the City & Guilds Specifications are as follows:
Outcome 1: Identify the safe working practices in communication systems.
Outcome 2: Describe the basic principles of SI units and symbols.
Outcome 3: Describe the basic principles of communication systems.
Outcome 4: Describe the basic principles of data communication.
During the course you will be assessed by qualified trainers, on completion you will be required to take, an on line examination of around 25 multiple choice questions. If you pass the test you will earn the City & Guilds 3667-02 Unit 1 certificate.
Unit 103 Fibre Optic Cabling in an External Environment. (Fibre Optic Splicing in Telecom's Networks)
This unit is classroom based and is concerned with the installation, termination, fusion splicing, and testing of fibre optic cabling, In single mode, which is used within telecommunication networks by service operators. It covers all aspects of working with external enclosures, OTDR testing, Insertion Loss measurements link loss budgets etc.
Equipment is setup in a vehicle as it would be used today in real life, giving learners the opportunity to splice into closures as close to real working conditions as is possible.
The outcomes of the training is detailed in the City & Guilds Specifications listed as follows:
Outcome 1: Work safely with optical fibres in an external environment
Outcome 2: Follow recommended installation procedures in accordance to industry standards.
Outcome 3: Prepare fibre optic cable for fibre splicing.
Outcome 4: Joint fibre optic cables by splicing.
Outcome 5: Terminate fibre optic cables by splicing on pre-terminated pigtails.
Outcome 6: Test fibre optic links in accordance to industry standards.
During the course you will be required to complete practical tasks to be assessed by industry approved trainers, on completion you will be required to take an on line examination of around 25 multiple choice questions. If successful you then you will be awarded the City and Guild certificate for this unit and the programme full certificate.
PROGRESSION
The natural progression would be to complete the remaining units for this award, Units 102 Fibre splicing in lan Internal situations for those that will be splicing inside on lan infrastrutures. & Unit 104 Copper Cabling. This is for those wanting to work with structured cabling running cat5 twisted pair type cables.
Cisco & Microsoft Certifications.
City & Guilds or Fetac level 5 module award in CCTV.
City & Guilds 7540 Diploma in ICT Professional competence
City & Guilds or FETAC module awards in Telecommunications.
City & Guilds Security Cabling
FETAC award in cable pre installation techniques a security based cabling unit.
